The Swiss Failed to Foil the Portugese Heist!!!

A day for Bono the Keeper of Morocco in last-16 shootout win over Spain. Morocco caused a seismic upset by knocking out Spain on penalties 3-0, after the game had finished goalless after 120 minutes.

Not one opponent has beaten Bounou – who has “Bono” on his shirt. Morocco conceded a single goal, and they scored that themselves. Even when it went to penalties, there was no way past.

Morocco's plan comes off to perfection. Morocco knew exactly what they were going to do against a favoured Spain side at Education City Stadium in the Round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup. Stood strong in defense, as they had done in the tournament up till now (conceding only one goal in the group stages, an own goal against Canada), and looked to hit the Spaniards on the break when they had the chance...

And if those breaks led to nothing they'd regrouped to absolutely ensure Spain couldn't break through. And if the match had to go to extra-time, well so be it. And if it had to go to penalties, well that too.

Morocco's men of the hour did exactly what was needed: keeper Bono saved two, while Abdelhamid Sabiri, Hakim Ziyech and Achraf Hakimi scored their spot-kicks to send Spain out and Morocco into the next round, where Portugal now wait. Morocco will now play the winner Portugal which defeated Switzerland 6-1.

Portugal Cut Smooth the Swiss Cheese; The Swiss Failed to Foil the Heist!!!

Portugal beat Switzerland 6-1 as Ronaldo's replacement Ramos scores a hat-trick.

The 21-year-old Goncalo Ramos, selected ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, scored a fairytale hat-trick as an exhilarating Portugal ran riot.

Ramos also had an assist and Portugal mainstays Raphael Guerreiro, Raphael Leao, and Pepe also scored in the win..

You drop Cristiano Ronaldo and the man you pick instead of him best not miss. Goncalo Ramos is 21. He made his international debut last month. Before Tuesday he had played only 36 minutes of international football. And yet within 17 minutes he had already scored more World Cup knockout goals than Ronaldo; by midway through the second half he had completed the first hat-trick of Qatar 2022. Coach Fernando Santos could hardly have been more obviously vindicated. Ramos, emphatically, did not miss, setting up a quarter-final against Morocco. I think Ramos’s hat-trick is the best – or at least the most notable – at a World Cup since Paolo Rossi’s against Brazil in 1982. One thing is undeniable: it’s the first in a World Cup knockout game since Tomas Skuhravy, a former Czech striker's hat-trick of headers against Costa Rica in 1990.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos dropped Cristiano Ronaldo and was rewarded with a hat-trick from replacement Goncalo Ramos as his side put Switzerland to the sword on Tuesday.

Pepe, Raphael Guerreiro and Rafael Leao also got on the scoresheet while Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji pulled one back for Switzerland.

It has been a treat to the eyes to see the best results produced by Portugal as a team combination of the vitality of the young like 21 year old Ramos and the experience of the old hand like 39 year old Pepe. They breached Ronaldo to score a 6-1 victory. Even the defenders were inspired to net their goals!!!!

This is all for the day about the FIFA World Cup 2022 as of now. Portugal’s impressive victory means they will now play Morocco in the quarter-finals — with either reigning world champions France or England waiting in the next stage
