On Falling Standards of Democracy

Of all the many reasons for the sorry state of our democracy, I think,  education is of paramount importance to run a successful democracy.  Education has long been regarded as one of the prime drivers of  economic growth and making the democracy a success. Over time, many  growth theories have  developed relating human capital and economic growth, thereby underlining the importance of education in the growth process of democracy. The belief that education promotes growth has led governments of many developing countries to invest in the education sector linking it with skill training with assured job opportunities.  Education also helps people in democracy to rationalise their duties with  responsibility. Education helps eradicate superstitions, take personal initiative for population control and sensible use of their democratic rights.  The Government of India too acknowledged the role of education in development immediately after i ndependence in 1947. ON GANDHIJI'S "EXPENSIVE POVERTY"

A Joke On Gandhiji Blown Out Of Proportion……  The statement, "It needs a lot of money to keep Bapu poor" jokingly once made by Dr Sarojini Naidu, doesn't need much cost-benefit-analysis. Dr Naidu could hardly anticipate that her joke would fan controversy and be blown out of proportion and used to cast doubts on Gandhi’s lifestyle! Gandhiji’s mingling with the common people weren’t just some political stunts as we see today in current politics. Before joining active politics in India, he had travelled across India in those third-class compartments, getting closer to the people, their needs and problems. It was these experiments that converted congress from the party of an elite to the party of the people. And that was something no money could buy. Second important point to note is, Gandhiji never dema

Democracy Is Now Under Cloud

Democracy is now in danger the world over. Putin and Xi Jinping have ensured their place to hold top power for ever by making amendment in constitution. In India the same dose of intoxicants are being administered to a crowd of supporters for a blind support to a single party. The opposition has never been projected as villain and redundant through so aggressive propaganda ever before. Our democracy is also, in fact, in danger.
