TRUMP AND BIDEN COMPARED

As Joseph R. Biden is now projected to win 279 electoral votes till last vote count on Saturday the 7th Nov and subsequently lead the country for the next four years as the next president of the US, it's better to analyse how the difference between the two candidates -- Biden and Donald Trump impact the world and India.

Kamala Harris, a senator from California made history as she was elected vice president of the United States.

Her victory represents a handful of firsts: she will be the first woman, the first Black woman, the first Indian-American woman and the first daughter of immigrants to be sworn in as vice president.

Joe Biden and Donald Trump inspite of their age, both ran spirited campaigns to barnstorm the country. Both are a way past 70.

Biden is currently leading in states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, Michigan, and Arizona, as counting continues in these states.

Trump has not yet given in. Nevertheless his victory is most likely to send a bad signal to the world. His victory will embolden autocratic rulers and spread intolerance. Most likely the US economy may slow down further under Trump and due to which economies of many nations may grab opportunities to improve their positions.

Trump victory may cause setbacks to Indian economy. It may block outsourcing, trade and the inflow of professionals from India to the US. In India, PM Modi would be seen to derive inspiration for having allied himself with “Doland" and that would further strengthen his government’s hand against political enemies, dissidents, intellectuals and minorities. Indian democracy would come under even greater pressure.

Trump is most likely, as he has been, aggressively defy UN bodies to prefer bilateral ties over multilateralism. His trade priority of 'American First' restricts immigration. He negotiated hard with China. He is most likely to become even more aggressive on all these fronts if he gets elected!!!

Trump isolated Iran in the Middle East, brought about an understanding between Israel and some Gulf States to come close and thereby annoyed Palestine, as the deal between Israel and UAE does not address the Palestinian demand for statehood. His victory would widen the rift among Gulf nations.

Manufacturing companies in US have not only seen job losses in Trump government, some have even closed down. It is that disaffected class that Trump relies on, to whom he has turned, stoking their fears and convincing them that the enemy is elsewhere. He will continue deliver lies in his second term too as regard to the spread of the pandemic, the racial strife, and the loss of jobs.

During Trump's tenure, relations between the US and Pakistan have deteriorated.

Pakistan will be hoping Democrat Joe Biden assumes the President's office. Pakistan has been in trouble with the Donald Trump administration and would be hoping for Joe Biden's victory.

Trump stopped aid to Pakistan for not spending the money on containing terror activities.

Joe Biden has been an old diplomat and has had cordial relations with Pakistan. He was behind the proposal to bring $ 1.5 billion non-military aid to Pakistan. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly lashed out at Pakistan on several public forums.

Also, Joe Biden had come out in support of Kashmiris and had compared the plight of Muslims in Kashmir with that of Rohingyas in Bangladesh and Uygar Muslims in China.

In a statement published on June 2020, around 10 months after India revoked Article 370 of the constitution, Biden had asked New Delhi to restore the rights of the Kashmiris.

It will be good news for Pakistan if Joe Biden takes oath for office at the White House. Joe Biden can give a new dimension to relations with Pakistan in his foreign policy. In such a situation, it is hoped that during Biden's tenure, relations between Pakistan and America will be better than today.
