Knock Outs for Quarter Finals

France Won 3-1 Against Poland: World Cup 2022, last 16. France will play England in the Quarter-Final.

Olivier Giroud became France’s all-time leading goalscorer and Kylian Mbappe scored two screamers as France cruised into the quarters.

Mbappé watched Giroud break a 13-year record and then Mbappé himself performed the same feat twice. This turned into a fine night’s work for France, who finished in complete control and could feel that their attack was clicking at the perfect moment.  Yes, much of that came from Mbappé, whose second half performance was among the best individual displays of this tournament.

It was Giroud who applied the first blow and, were it not for Mbappé, his feat would dominate every appraisal. In truth it deserves to. Perhaps few would have expected the 36-year-old Giroud, whose contributions have often been maligned, to be the player overtaking Thierry Henry, one time famous French footballer who had set a high water mark by scoring his 51st and final goal for France in October 2009.

While the pair Giroud and Mbappe celebrated afterwards there was regret for Polish team captain Robert Lewandowski, who will surely not be seen again on this stage. He scored a penalty at the very end, succeeding at the second attempt after the French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had strayed off the goal line in saving his first.

In the second game of the day England ease past Senegal 3-0 to set up a quarter final showdown with France.

England turned on the class after a challenging start to beat Senegal 3-0 at the 2022 World Cup and advance to the quarter finals.

The result sets up a tantalizing clash with France, who beat Poland 3-1 earlier in the day. Jordan Henderson and captain Harry Kane both scored just before the break to secure a 2-0 half-time lead against a Senegal side that had looked entirely up to the task at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar.

Speedy Senegal striker Boulaye Dia, who looked dangerous on the counter, came closest for the African side when he brought out a sharp one-handed save from Jordan Pickford after England's defense carelessly gave the ball away just past the half-hour.

Mentality was top from the beginning and the English team took their chances when they came. Henderson settled England's nerves in the 38th minute, stroking the ball home after being played in by Jude Bellingham at the end of a lovely passing move.

Kane struck a ferocious shot past goalkeeper Edouard Mendy with the last kick of the first half, leaving him one goal behind Wayne Rooney's record of 53 goals for England.

Senegalese Manager Aliou Cisse rang the changes for Senegal at half-time but to little effect, as Bukayo Saka put England three up in the 57th minute, applying a deft touch to Phil Foden's cross through the 6-yard box over the outstretched arms of Mendy. England eased past 3-0.

This is all for the day about the FIFA World Cup 2022 as now all teams are playing for their entry into Quarter Finals.
